Periodically I see something on a social network site that’s so compelling I want to share it with everyone — and hope everyone I share it with actually reads it. That seems unlikely but still worth every bit of effort.
Today I stumbled across one of these sorts of gems. It’s a simple image that was shared in my Facebook stream, which I re-shared, and was then commented on wildly from my circle of friends.
Clearly it’s based on a simple concept taught by the Dalai Lama XIV.
“If you have fear of some pain or suffering, you should examine whether there is anything you can do about it. If you can, there is no need to worry about it; if you cannot do anything, then there is also no need to worry.”
From A Policy of Kindness: An Anthology of Writings By and About the Dalai Lama.
If you’ve read Byron Katie’s Loving What Is, I suspect you will also appreciate its perspective.
As I attempted to find the original source, I learned that it’s been circulated around the web since the spring. I found many related tidbit but not (yet) the illustrator.
Enjoy. Print. Post it on your wall. Share it widely. Then… well… you know.
